The threshold is a room
Between inside and outside lies architecture’s most generous territory: shade, pause and the possibility of arrival.

Neither in nor out
The verandah, court, deep reveal and covered passage resist a simple boundary. They temper sunlight, collect conversation and let the body adjust before entering another condition.
In warm climates these are not decorative gestures. They are environmental instruments that also happen to make social life possible.

The depth of an edge
A thin wall separates. A deep edge connects. Its section can hold a seat, a tree, rainwater, a view and the small delay that turns movement into experience.
When plans become compressed, thresholds are often the first spaces to disappear. Yet they can do more work than rooms with names.
Architecture as invitation
A generous threshold tells you how to enter without signage. Light narrows, the ceiling lowers, the ground changes underfoot. The building offers a cue and the body understands.
